SAMUEL ENGINEERING SPONSORS THE FIRST ANNUAL SME MEETING IN NEVADA
Samuel Engineering, Inc. (SE) has been a long-time supporter of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME). Earlier this month SE sponsored and attended the 1st Annual Nevada Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division Meeting: “Sustaining the Legacy of Process Excellence.” This inaugural annual meeting was held in Reno, Nevada. The organizing committee, headed by Jim Wickens did an excellent job of developing the programs and events which were attended by over 100 mining industry professionals.
The meeting covered many topics focused on operations developments in the mining industry, including the development of the Donlin Gold and Nevada Copper Projects, heap leach solution well technology, dry grinding performance improvements, and the advantages of top stack conveyor heap stacking. We also had the honor of celebrating a Lifetime Achievement Award of Gene E. McClelland, the recently retired President and founder of McClelland Laboratories, Inc.
The Nevada MPD Subsection is similar to that of the Colorado MPD and the CMP meetings and those familiar with these gatherings know the importance they have in providing an excellent format for sharing information and networking. As with these other meetings, proceeds went to fund scholarships to student presenters from regional mining related undergraduate programs. SE will continue to support SME in providing technical development of mineral processing and to promote advances in methods and techniques for process improvements.
