Samuel Engineering celebrates black history month
Every February, people in the United States gather to celebrate the achievements, trials, and triumphs of black people throughout the nation. The month is dedicated and created to focus attention on the many contributions of blacks throughout history within the United States.
Black History Month was started in 1915 and was declared a national celebration in the year 1976. The month of February was chosen as Black History Month since Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln (who led the United States as president during the civil war) were both born in this month.
As stated earlier, in 1976, U.S. President Gerald Ford declared this month as the celebration. Many schools, corporations, and more soon followed the celebrations, honoring black people who have made a difference within their organizations and communities.
Among the notable figures often spotlighted during Black History Month are Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought for equal rights for Blacks during the 1950s and ’60s; Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American justice appointed to the United States Supreme Court in 1967; Mae Jemison, who became the first female African-American astronaut to travel to space in 1992; the list goes on.
Samuel Engineering, Inc. (SE) is honored to take time to celebrate this month. Both our President, Everod Samuel, and our CEO, Claudia Samuel, are of Black Caribbean heritage. Claudia Samuel started our company in May of 1996, and Everod later joined in the year 2000. Since then, they have guided and led this company to help complete thousands of projects within the heavy industries. They have also instilled important morals, passion, and excellence into SE’s foundation as a company.
