Mr. Sorensen has demonstrated value engineering and management ability, revising and streamlining the stage and gate investment processes for capital development and M&A opportunities. Additionally, he possesses skills in providing reduced costs by integrating operations­based resources that deliver work quality. Notable major projects executed while leading the Value Assurance Function for Newmont include Akyem Gold Mine (Ghana), Tana mi Expansion (Australia), and Merian Project (Suriname), totaling over $2.5 billion in expenditures.
Jim built and profitably managed a US-based Mining & Metals Engineering and construction business unit, growing to over 250 employees in multiple offices. He has successfully led significant capital projects in the US and Canada as a project manager in parallel with this role. He has completed numerous feasibility and technical studies globally in compliance with US and Canadian exchange requirements-a technological innovator with one patented invention.
